Denton Will Run for Portsmouth City Council
Iraq War combat veteran that used the Post 9/11 GI Bill to become a lawyer and helped organize last summer's "Welcome Home" End of Iraq War Parade will run for the Portsmouth City Council.
I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Portsmouth City Council.
I have always believed in civic duty and public service; first as an Eagle Scout, then as an Army officer, and now as a candidate. I fell in love with Portsmouth when I was an undergraduate at the University of New Hampshire, thought about the city while I was in the Army, and moved here the day I took off my uniform after returning from Iraq. My campaign is focused on the reestablishment of a Senior Center, adequate parking, and form-based zoning to ensure that Portsmouth maintains its character with new developments.
I believe that my unique combination of experience and leadership make me a well-qualified candidate for the Portsmouth City Council. In the Army I served effectively in a number of leadership roles, including as an artillery platoon leader stateside and as a combat advisor to an Iraqi infantry battalion in Baghdad, where I had to make decisions that literally carried the weight of life and death.

I earned my Masters Degree in Public Administration from my alma mater while waiting tables in a downtown restaurant and when the Post 9/11 GI Bill went into effect, I attended the University of New Hampshire’s School of Law to become a lawyer. It meant a lot to me to help organize last summer’s “Welcome Home” End of the Iraq War Parade and instead of practicing law, I chose to serve as our Congressional District’s Veterans Liaison.
The campaign is energized and off to an incredible start. I have been attending City Council meetings and contacting both elected officials and community leaders. I pledge to run a campaign with integrity that shows respect for all candidates. Please share your interest in my campaign and my message with your family, friends, and neighbors. Feel free to e-mail, write, or call me with your ideas. I look forward to working with you to stand up for the values we share and I am confident that together we can win in November.
