Should Reading Texts While Driving be Illegal?

The NH Supreme Court will hear an appeal this week of a 2010 conviction.

The New Hampshire Supreme Court will hear arguments Thursday in a Barnstead resident's appeal of his conviction on assault charges in a 2010 case where he caused an accident while reading a text, according to the Associated Press.

Chad Belleville, 30, allegedly looked down at his phone to read a text message while driving to pick up Chinese food. Prosecutors argue that his inattention caused the accident, which resulted in a crash that left a teenage boy with traumatic brain injury. Though texting while driving is against the law in the Granite State, reading a text is not.
