Eileen Foley, 95, Cuts Memorial Bridge Ribbon—Again

Ninety-five-year-old Eileen Foley on Thursday opened the Memorial Bridge for the second time in her life.

In 1923, Foley cut the ribbon on the original bridge when she was 5 years old. She outlived the bridge, which was closed in July 2011 for replacement.

The former Portsmouth mayor was the featured guest at Thursday's grand opening of the new bridge.

"This is 90 years in the making," said Foley's daughter, Mary.

The bridge was opened to pedestrians after the ceremony and was set to open to vehicles later Thursday.
