Huge Field, Big Names in Portsmouth City Council Race

The election is Nov. 5.

The Portsmouth City Council race this fall features a huge field of candidates, including several big names.

All nine council seats are up for grabs in the Nov. 5 election. There are 23 candidates.

The filing period closed Monday at 6 p.m. and saw several last-minute filings, including incumbents Christine Dwyer and Robert Lister.

Mayor Eric Spear will run for re-election, as will six other incumbents.

Jim Splaine, a longtime former city councilor and state representative, is also running, as is Stefany Shaheen, daughter of U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH.
