Portsmouth's New Memorial Bridge

The new Memorial Bridge connecting Portsmouth to Kittery, Maine opened Thursday after more than two years of planning and construction.

The lift bridge cost about $81.4 million, according to state transportation officials. The old bridge was shut down in July 2011 after 88 years of service.
A grand opening was held Thursday.
