Elusive Season
By Scott McPherson
Elusive season, do you hide?
Your many faithful admirers
Seek audience with splendor —
With impatience! Breathe life
Into our fading hopes; divers
Budding dreams and flowers stir
In anticipation! Oh, what a sight
As this chirping chorus of fliers
Plunder from the reliable feeder
Faster than a girlish sigh
Will sever the brittle moor
Of her doubtful dandy's ardor!
Would that this cold might find
Reason to bid us adieu —
Leaving winter in its patient corner
To envy the bright smiles
Reserved for April's courtiers
Hopeful of an early visitor
